Ultimate Quality for Video Editors

New 1.1 Software For World's First DV/FireWire Editing System!

Foster City, CA, Nov. 1, 1997--- FAST Multimedia is shipping new software for the world's first FireWire editing system for the new Digital Video (DV) format. The new, and already award winning, DV Master is currently the only professional DV editing solution on the market providing a completely Native DV post-production environment.

The new 1.1 software with its DV Manager application also provides many new features and functionality. The PCI Busmaster card accepts data from Digital Video and analog video equipment via standard or FireWire interfaces (IEEE1394), processing them in real-time with a DV hardware CoDec from Sony. In contrast, other DV solutions are based on software CoDecs and have no true real-time decoding/encoding capabilities. DV Master (MSRP $3995) runs under Windows95 (soon under Windows NT), and comes with an external connection box for the desktop and a professional software bundle that gives users everything they need to produce network caliber videos quickly and easily.

"Version 1.1 and the new capture/playback application DV Manager offer features the others just can't match!," said Christian Jorgensen, Master Line Product Manager at FAST US. "Now users can do all their previewing, logging, capture and playback within one application and the world-famous FAST MediaCache utility has also been integrated." Timecode is fully supported as is Mark-In/Mark-Out along with full device control (RS422 and FireWire) of cameras, VTRs and the new FAST DV Drive. Even more exciting is the new Playlist capability. Now users can add multiple clips to a playlist, sequence them in any order and then play them back as one continuous file.

"This is the answer for long format editors," said Jorgensen. "And it overcomes the file size limitations of Video for Windows. With the DVM's new Playlist capabilities users can efficiently and easily manage even long format documentaries. This is another feature the competition just can't offer," he said.

Another feature unique to DV Master is full-motion/full-screen video that can be displayed as a live computer VGA Inlay and on an external video monitor simultaneously (even while scrubbing in a clip), a feature that dramatically reduces the amount of time necessary to preview and select video and audio material.

With the included editing software, users can edit video and add effects, titles or 3D animations. DV audio is recorded directly without compression and with Sound Forge XP, users can have total control over their CD-quality audio. DV Master also has two audio channels for re-recording. Once editing has been completed, the video and audio can be transferred to tape in two different ways: as DV video via the FireWire interface to a DV camcorder/recorder or to a VTR, as analog video (S-video or BetaSP (YUV)).

With its real-time CoDec capabilities, DV Master is far ahead of all other announced DV products based on slow software CoDecs with sub-standard 1/4th screen sizes. Its unique ability to also process analog video signals allows editors to fully utilize their existing equipment and also archive valuable analog material to DV. "No sacrifices, no compromises, just pure digital quality!" concluded Jorgensen. "Additionally FAST has been working with world-famous in:sync to port their very popular Speed Razor editing software to the DV Master in the very near future." in:sync's Speed Razor is well known with professionals as a high performance, high quality nonlinear application with long format capabilities.
